Hazardous Materials and Railway Safety for EMS
Course Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify the roles and responsibilities of various emergency response agencies in hazardous materials and train derailment incidents.
- Participants will gain knowledge of the rail industry, local rail lines, and the types of hazardous commodities and materials transported.
- Participants will be able to apply principles of multi-agency collaboration to ensure an organized and effective emergency response.
- Participants will be able to identify hazards associated with hazardous materials spills, assess risks to responders and the public, and implement appropriate safety measures.
- Participants will be able to apply execute proper decontamination protocols, recognize medical implications of hazardous exposure, and apply best practices for patient treatment.
- Participants will be able to utilize tactical considerations for managing train derailments, hazardous spills, and associated risks like fire or explosions.
- Participants will be able to follow OSHA, DOT, and NFPA guidelines for hazardous materials response and understand the importance of accurate incident documentation.
