Baseball history is about more than statistics, championships, and famous players. It is also a story of opportunity, exclusion, perseverance, integration, civil rights, and change.
This assessment is designed to reinforce the people, events, and larger ideas explored in the book. Some questions will test your knowledge of baseball history. Others will ask you to think more deeply about why that history matters.
As you work through the assessment, you will encounter topics including the Color Barrier, the Negro Leagues, pioneering players and executives, Jackie Robinson and the integration of Major League Baseball, the broader struggle for equality, and the continuing recognition of Negro League accomplishments.
The goal is not simply to memorize names and dates.
The goal is to understand the history, apply what you have learned, and consider the lessons that baseball can teach us about opportunity and fairness.
