Advancing CAR T-cell therapy in Australia: collaborative approaches for relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma

This Research Review E-Learning Module is intended for Australian healthcare
professionals. It is based on the Educational Series publication 'Advancing CAR T-cell therapy in Australia: collaborative approaches for relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma'.

The Educational Series provides an overview of the data supporting the use of CAR T-cells in patients with relapsed or refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (r/r DLBCL). This is followed by a discussion of the patient's journey, from the initial diagnosis to the challenges of accessing CAR T-cell therapy. Practical recommendations for improving collaboration between community haematologists and designated CAR T-cell Treatment Centres are also included, as is the long-term care of patients within the community post-therapy.

On completion of this module, you should be able to:

• Understand the significance of CAR T-cell therapy in the treatment landscape for r/r DLBCL. ​
• Identify the key differences between the two MSAC-approved CAR T-cell therapies in Australia, axi-cel and tisa-cel. ​
• Recognise the logistical and geographical challenges patients face in accessing CAR T-cell therapy and the importance of early referral to designated CAR T Treatment Centres. ​
• Describe the patient journey with CAR T-cell therapy, including the roles of
  community haematologists and CAR T Treatment Centres in patient management and follow-up care. ​
• Apply the MSAC criteria for patient eligibility for CAR T-cell therapy and understand the importance of multidisciplinary discussions for patient selection. ​
• Outline the preparation process for CAR T-cell therapy, including logistics,
  leukapheresis, bridging therapy, and the CAR T-cell infusion process, as well as the necessary follow-up and monitoring of post-infusion.

To receive CPD certification, participants must score at least 70% on the multiple-choice quiz.
